- Always lock all exterior doors at night.
- Always lock every exterior door when ever you leave the house – even if it’s just for a few minutes.
- Your exterior doors should be solid wood or metal clad.
- Your doors features should include a wide-angle peepholes at heights everyone can use.
- All entry ways should have a working, keyed entry lock with a sturdy deadbolt lock.
- Leave spare keys with a trusted neighbor, not outside your home such as under a door mat or planter.
- Glass panels in or near your doors need to be reinforced, so that they cannot be shattered.
- Check the quality of the door frame. The best quality deadbolt can’t stop a break in if the door is bolted into a weak frame
- Change all the locks and tumblers when you move into a new house.
